How It Works

Simple enough to use on a cobblestone evening.

Load Your Area Once

Open the app in a new neighbourhood and it fetches all POI and building data from OpenStreetMap, cached on fast servers for everyone. This is the only internet moment before you walk. If you see no data, tap "Fetch Grid" once.

Hit Record — Then Just Walk

Tap record, pocket the phone, and move. Hello Vienna draws your route silently in the background. Or hold it out and tap any POI within 30 m for live details. Both modes work perfectly — switch anytime.

Stop — Everything Saved

Tap stop whenever you're done. The app matches your route against the local cache and saves your walk — every POI, every detail, your full path. Internet is used only here to sync the result to your history.

Open the result: your route on the map, every place listed with full details. Tap any POI to jump to maps. Your walk lives in history for 168 hours — a gentle reason to keep exploring.

Your Privacy, Always

Your real-time position is never stored on our servers while you are recording. Everything is saved only after you tap Stop. Building ownership and scores are delayed by at least one hour before being visible to others. We built Hello Vienna for explorers, not data collectors.

You arrive at your hotel near the Ringstraße. Evening — most shops already closed. Hit record, step out into the warm light.

Wander past the Burgtheater, duck into a side street, find a Heuriger by accident. No need to touch the phone once.

A bench near the Volksgarten lights up — you've renamed it "Best view at dusk." It remembers for you.
